Brooklyn Public Library (BPL) is the fifth largest public library system in the nation, existing independently alongside New York City’s two other library systems and providing programs and resources for the borough’s 2.6 million residents. BPL is comprised of a flagship Central Library, 58 neighborhood libraries and a business and career library. Its mission is to ensure the preservation and transmission of society’s knowledge, history and culture, as well as provide Brooklynites with free and open access to information for education, reference and recreation. BPL’s Services for Older Adults Department is in charge of offering many inclusive programming and services tailored for the 50-plus audience. These include lectures, films, performances and educational programs that reflect the wide interests of today's older adults.
